Default towing

hi i have a question about the towing laws in florida if you live in a area where everyone else is parked in the street too are they allowed to tow only your car if there are no signs like no parking or private property or tow-away-zone?

Were you parked in front of someone else's property?

if a group of cars is parked in a tow away zone the tow company can tow all or one of the cars that is in the tow away zone. They are not required to take them all. The tow truck company would have to be notified if a car in a tow away zone. So most likely if all cars are in a tow zone and just yours got towed, someone most likely called it in to the tow company.

in your case someone most likely called and complained because your car was most likely in front of private property.

in short they can tow just one of the cars even if there is no sign.

I saw Black Jack towing cars into LKQ a few times today while I was there....did not ask him where they came from....or any other questions.....in Tampa, generally there must be a sign.....-Bob

well from what i heard from a cop, if its not a tow away zone, they have to put a notice on your car that it will be towed or else the towing company gets in trouble

there does not need to be a sign if the car is blocking access to anything like a mailbox, fire hydrant or part of the driveway.

it depends on the city.... i do believe if you a parked in front of someone else's property without permission they can have your car towed... Clearwater is really bad about this.

its not enforced but i know most cities specifically Clearwater and Tampa. Has a law if there is too much space between the car and the curb you can can be towed as well. It used to be if your wheels are more then 12 inches from the curb you could be towed. They say if its that far out you could be blocking traffic or emergency vehicle passage. Its been several years since i worked for a towing and recovery company so some of these regulations may have been amended or changed by now.
