Default converting to carb?

my buddy has a 351 in a 96 full size bronco automatic, its currently gay FI and were looking to boost it and we dont really want to mess with tuning.

so other than an intake and carb what will be needed? anything tranny wise?

carb , intake, a vacum advance style distributor, a fuel regulator that can tune down the fuel pressure a lot since EFI pumps push out 40-50 PSI and bring it down to 5-6 PSI. and IM pretty damn sure you are going to have to find something to do with the tranny since its all electronic. And there is still quite a bit of tuning on the carb itself, its not bolt on and go. You will also be spending quite a lot of money to get a carb thats setup for a blow thru deal.

so yea its going to be a bit

You'll need (from my understanding) a transmission with detent-cable kickdown control, i.e. c4.
Intake manifold, blow through specific carb, possible modification the the throttle cable/bracket (easy), low pressure fuel pump and fpr.
One bit of advice: I've done quite a few blow-through boosted setups. They're by no means easy.
I imagine many of the 5.0 EFI parts transfer over, so why not go with a popular 5.0 EFI system? There's plenty of aftermarket support.
I'm with you on doing cool different things, but the blow-through setup will end up more expensive, more difficult to tune, and less efficient.

If you decide to go through with blow through, I can help you tune your carb. I'm pretty familiar with it.

Good luck jordan.

draw through turbo set-up? Why do a blow through? There is no advantage...

like everyone else said.. it will be more difficult, costly, and time consuming to switch over when the EFI will be just as good if not better..

For carbs, I'd go no larger than a 650 Holley Street Avenger. Definitely get the electric choke and vacuum secondaries. Unfortunately, reading owns me and my above advice is for a N/A setup.

I understand why a blow-through might be intimidating, carbs are very expensive for blow-through. PM Scott about his setup on his Mustang. IIRC, the blow-through carbs start @ around 2k. Dunno about draw through but I would think that the carb size would have a lot to do with the mods on the motor and how much boost/air you'd plan on moving.

think about it though, where is the turbo on a draw thru setup? It will be after the carb itself, which that right there makes it super difficult

+1. You just going to be spending more unneccesary time and money then if you just went with a proven efi turbo setup.

Hold on, jordan. I'm looking for an old thread of mine on this subject...

Edit: Found it.
http://www.csucarbs.com/
From my ''Boosting my 60* V6 Rirebird + blow-through thread.''

I know them there pretty well, and they're some great people to talk to. They'll always take time out of their day to help.
Amazing products too.
