Default question on car insurance and aftermarket

ok, you know how when people have car insurance, they can report whatever "aftermarket" they put on the car and report the pricing so that when the car is parted out of what not, they can get that amount back right?

so with rims, exhausts, intakes, etc it should be pretty easy to report the amount paid and have those parts insured right?

ok, well, here is my question.. how do insurance companies deal with.. say... turbo kits. because to my understanding, some turbo kits aren't exactly street legal.

so more specifically to the KA-t guys(but not limited to), do you guys even report that as something you added on your car?
will the insurance company refuse to cover those parts if they are not street legal?
or can you just say you "bought aftermarket performance modifcations for the engine"?

also, do you need to have some form of receipt for the parts you bought? how do they make it all official so that you can/cant trick them that you paid 10,000$ for something u got for 100$?

interested myself. I always wondered. My car is KBB @ 7,400 bucks. But I have 6-9K in mods. I could only dream to sell my car for 12k, or even 10K. But what if I got into an accident.

ttt.

It's called ENDORSEMENTS. you need to submit reciepts and photos usually, and this goes to underwriting. I once had teh wheels on my Civic added to my policy. Added a little extra premium, but at least they were covered.

Of course none of this means you will get anything close to what you paid back if it's stolen. Cash value is what most policies are based on, not stated value or agreed value. Of course, that is unless you ask for an agreed value policy. Good luck with that one.

I currently have an agreed amount policy on the Cadillac through Grundy, but they won't insure what you drive.

most companies have a limit to what they payout on custom parts and equipement. usually around $4000 unless you have a "stated amount or value " policy which you will get paid for what your gets appraised for.But you will definately need receipts for all work done and parts included.
