Default Oil Question

I know this is kind of a stupid question but whats the difference between 5w-30 and 10w-30 and what will happen when you mix them together?

Basically what you have listed is multi grade oil, designed to work when cold and hot. The viscosity (the number on the oil ie. 5W40) is relation to it's operating temp. If you have a lower weight it's going to be more 'fluid' at a lower temp. but turn to froth at a higher temp. and so on. This isn't exactly the most scientific explanation but it's mostly correct, I hope.

a shitty oil gets frothy, oil grade has nothing to do with it

the first number is the "viscosity" at ambient temperature, the lower the number the easier it flows

people don't understand oil, they think it thins out as it warms up, but it thickens as it cools down

your second number is the "viscosity" at running temp, and the numbers work the same as the cold number

if you really want the deal on oil, read this
