heres what i wrote from a previous thread, same question almost...
of course, heres the long awaited "which auto school is best" thread we get every month. Ill break it down real simple, and this should be a closed sticky...
1. There is no such thing as a "good" automotive school. The best teacher is experience and dirty hands.
2. Youre a dumbass if you believe half the shit the recruiters for ANY of the schools tell you. The only real thing from those schools is the bill you will have afterward.
3. A career in the auto field is NOT easy, its not quick to make money, and its not fun. You will clean, do nothing but bitch work your first two years, and after that it is a very slow crawl uphill in the rain. Its not fun.
4. You think 15-20 dollars sounds good? Do you know what flat rate is? its like commission, you get paid based on what you do. If you take 3 days to do a job that will pay you 2 hours, you only get TWO hours.
5. That nifty little tool box they give you at UTI, yeah, if you go to a shop with that, and dont outgrow that mother fucker in two weeks, you will have almost no tools.
6. People in shops dont trust anyone, at least good technicians dont. And its not mechanic, its technician. Its a dog eat dog career, and you will make very few friends, and while there is plenty of work, you will probably move to 15 different shops in your career, only to find out almost none of them offer any kind of retirement plan.
Go ahead, ask me how i know this shit, and if anyone disagrees, you are full of shit. Sorry to be rough kid, but next time hit the search button if you want nicer answers...
Kyle...
let me find some more...i know what im talking about too, trust me....
