Would you upgrade Miatas ?
I think you need to ask yourself what you plan on using it for - I will tell you that you can typically buy someone elses toy for cheaper than you can create it yourself. So - if it was me - I'd try and sell yours for as much as possible (2 2.5k seems too cheap) then upgrade to the later model. Save a little money - try and to get them down a little. compress the distance between the two.

Theres a green miata that isn't a V8, driven by an older guy with a funny looking hat. That thing walks the fuck out. For a miata.
my buddy build a spec miata to race in the miata league and autocross. says that its more fun than his other cars (m5, z3m...) not much is needed to get it to that level, roll cage, suspension, ..
you can buy a bolt on turbo from greddy for the 1.6l for 3k and be at an easy 250whp. if you really want to have some fun with your car then here's a list that will totally change how the car performs.
-suspension
-bracing(butterfly,rollbar,tower bar)
-intake,header,catback (all racingbeat)
-15-16inch wheels...lightweight
-low profile tires, preferably falken azenis or toyo proxies
if you want to discuss anything, PM me and i would be more then happy to help you out. i daily drove mine at 400rwhp, but was capable of almost 500 on 110 octane at 30lbs of boost. it all depends on what you really want out of it. if you want big numbers, swap in the 1.8l. 94 block, 99 head.

yeah, since I'm trying to look like an e-thug, but lets see, I didn't say your civic was fast either did I?
i feel like im argueing with an eleven year old. You said "yeah and im sure theyre just as fast as your civic."
obviously saracastic and autox has stock events to race in.
the miata are great for auto cross get a roll cage helmet, gloves etc etc, and practice, you could compete fine, then upgrade that bitch! or drop a kia sportage 2.0 twin cam motor in there, its a mazda motor, or somthing like that, but man i loved my 91 miata, and just to say now! my civic is slow yes, before someone starts to rag on me!
