Fake ads placed on autotrader!

What is up with all the fake adds placed on autotrader.com?
They list nice cars for like half of what they are worth, is it some kind of marketing scam or something!?!

If not mistaken people do this because you pay for time on autotrader, and they sell a car but want to get the full value so they post some b.s. to a fake email/number and then when they do want to sell it they change it again.
or i might be thinking of another site...

What sometimes happens is that the false number you call ends up being a caller ID system, which records your number to pass out to all kinds of telemarketing agencies.
Not to mention that it can be slightly dangerous. If you have a phone number, it's very easy to get an address from that. And at this address, there is sure to be a person with $9000 available to buy a certain car. Could (but I seriously doubt) mean trouble.
Could even be a communications system. Drug dealers or terrorists... "Hey man, call the number listed with the Acura NSX for $9000...".
Ok, I'm just talking out of my ass now.
Scammers suck.

^ thats why i always call from work
i've ran across several nsx's, a multitude of m3s and m5s, a few gs's, supras, and more that are not super low prices but lower than whole sale by a grand or so, emailed the people just to get the "i am in Europe, Asia, the moon... wire transfer, price includes shipping if you don't like it we'll ship it back at our cost..." i've about given up on using autotrader/craigslist/the net to find cars
