I'd stick an old 12v cummins in it...you can pick 'em up cheap and they make great power...most likely will need to buy a cowl hood to fit it though.
I know painless has wiring harnesses for cummins engines now.

in my opinion, the cummins is easily the simplest motor to work on, and the dependability when well cared for is top notch.
Maintenance is cheap too, as it doesnt have fucking 15 to 16 quarts of oil...
