Default Purchasing a car form a private party?

This is going to be my first car and was wondering if I had everything right.

- Pay Money for car, fill out the Bill of Sale
- Owner signs car over to you..

After that, you have no tag...should I contact a auto tag acengy then go to the dmv? Or should I sign up for insurance then go to the dmv? Not sure how to get the car back home..do I use his old tag?.

Thanks

Does the current owner owe money on the car? If so, I would go to their credit union and have it all done by them. That's what I did, and they took care of everything.

If the car is payed off, go online and print out the FL Bill of Vehicle Sale and fill it all out.. Obviously you pay him, have him sign the title over to you. Then go to the DMV and get it registered. Make sure of the title condtion before you purchase the car.

Oh and I would call to get it insured before driving it home..

Don't quote me on this, but I think you have a certain amount of time where you can have no tag after purchasing a vehicle. 24 hours if I'm not mistaken.

That's 10x worse than not having one at all.

Just don't put one on at all. If you get pulled over, show them the bill of sale. Like I said you have a certain amount of time to get a tag, and they cannot fine you for not having one if it's within that allowed time.

buy a trailer or find someone with a trailer and throw them some cash for the use of it. no worries about tag or insurance
