Your second comment was directed at me, not your buddy. It shows a completed lack of respect and class. If you want to act that way with your buddy, send him a PM or e-mail.

Thanks John

I pretty sure RevXtreme did this when they opened. I'm not sure if they still do but it's worth a shot.

I never thought that this thread would invoke some degree of "flaming", however thanks for the help to all. I am a bit surprised that nobody really offers this, would be awesome if it were possible however it looks like it may just have to be a storage unit rental at this point for light body work.

Buick ?

I live in a townhouse with a one car garage. I'm looking at a small storage unit, but something strictly to store parts (like a 5' X 8'). Most by-laws allow you to do minor work, such as oil changes, etc., as long as it's not a major project. They also allow you to work in your garage so long as that's where it stays (my current situation). It depends a great deal on how you organize your garage as well.

I also have pick up truck for daily transportation and the tailgate works as an outside/secondary bench. I've starting tearing down the engine, and have had the parts cleaner (bucket & brush) on the tailgate. I don't pull the engine out of the garage, but it's next to the garage door.

Read your by-laws and reoriginize your garage. you may find you have more room than you think.

John, from a profit and loss perspective, it would never make money. From a club perspective where the goal is to break even, it can be done. One cheap building and club contributions can go along way. Long term projects were allowed on a rented stall by the month kind of thing and was limited to 10 stalls for 5 cars. If one one stall was needed at the time, the renter subleted the extra stall out.

The rest of the stalls were for day or weekend work and a sign up sheet was used. The building used was an old dealership so there were 30 stalls. 20 of these could be used on the weekends. And they did get used.

But also consider this. This car club had been in existance for over 40 years. They ran 3-5 car shows a year to make extra money. Membership fees were $75 a year. The dealership was also a 'clubhouse'. Trailers were stored there. The club even built a couple cars and raffled them away for extra money. As mentioned, on a club basis, it's doable.

thats really cool. You certainly won't find that very many places, i wish it was profitable. But after doing the math, even the most simple jobs were more expensive than paying someone else to do it. That made it a tough sell

Sorry, it reminded me of the old skylarks and I completely skipped over the model name.

Car customizing as a hobby itself never really made any sense however hobbies usually dont make a profit. Most people just like to work on their vehicle because they enjoy the process and tinkering with everything. This would appeal more to intermediate and upper level customizers that have the ability just not the tools. It wouldnt be terribly difficult to purchase 10 stalls and rent 3-5 of them to mechanics to cover overhead.
