OK, most of you know I am from Germany, and that our tuning scene is quite different to the american or japanese scene.

This has different reasons, but that's not the point right now.

I was browsing to the "BMW Talk" Forum at BMW-Syndikate.de when I spotted this thread

The thread startet was askin about those leather hood covers, to protect your bumper and hood from insects and stones and shit, ruining the paint.

He asked if anyone would put those things on their cars, everybody said no!

The point about this is, suddenly it seems to be cool to have one of those covers, the VW, Audi and JDM magazines keep reporting about more and more cars with those covers.

It's actualy become a tuning trend in Germany! I can't believe it!

How many years do you have those things in the states?
I just know most of the americans on base only have those things on some mustangs or soccer-mum vans......but I never saw them on a supra or something like that. they are buttugly!
I don't get it.....next time I see one of those cocky VW drivers with such a thing I will point and laugh at him....then dump on the hood cover....

When I bought my prelude it came with a factory one.

I took it off, and I only put it on during lovebug season.

 

its definitely a functional item, nothing pretty.

I've used them before, but only on road trips and when bugs are high in number.

In the states we just call them "bra's". Interesting that its becoming a trend over seas. I don't think that one will catch on here

 

well ok, but let me explain.

You won't get such a thing to any kind of car you gonna buy in Germany, it's only something they JUST spotted somewhere, putted it on their cars and now they think it's a must to have it on a car!

It's ridiculous! it's oridnary hood cover and now it seems to be the next trendsetter at the car scene.


Oh you realy call them bra's? I thought some wanna be funny german guy "invented" that description for them.....

 

im 30 and i've seen Bra's on cars for as long as i can remember. my first car (1990 mazda 626) came with one. they are not popular in the tuner scene. but in Florida, a couple times a year we get "love-bugs" very bad, these bugs are attracted to fuel fumes and can cover the front of your car and eat away your paint, some people even cover the front of their car in painters tape to prevent this.

btw, most BMW's i've seen in america have the clear-bra. its basically a clear piece of film thats already cut to fit your car, and you can hardly tell when a car has one unless you look real close.

typical german show and shine tuning, much inside, nothing made under the hood.
Most germans will freak out because of the look, no matter that this car is slower than mine!!

And now I have to deal with those guys who think bra's are cool!
I bet they never heard of it 6 months ago!

 

thats a myth.

it like me saying these lizards we have were engineered to eat poo, but all they do is run around our yards...when in fact they come from cuba and have just infested here...much like the fireants from brazil/latin america or the tilapia from africa.
