Once you hear the click stop applying force. when your done don't leave it loaded take the setting back to zero, it will last you longer and maintain its accuracy.

i have a craftsman. i suggest getting a craftsman or husky, or another that has a lifetime warranty on it, they do eventually need to be recalibrated, i like the ease of taking it back and getting a brand new one. and like kapone said, always put the adjuster back down to its lowest setting.

I've got a Husky. Well put together, good locking, easy to use, and you get a carry-case. I recommend it.
But at the lower torque settings, the clicks are very quiet.

you also have to assess how much you'll use it and what you're doing
if you're just TQing chassis stuff every once in a while, then its really not necessary to spend the extra money for a higher end one IMO
i have a $20 pep boys that gets me by for the small amount i use it, i'll eventually upgrade, but like i said, for now its an extra $80 or whatever better spent elsewhere

Craftsman click type
As mentioned earlier, gradually apply the torque until it clicks.
Yes
And always set back to zero.
Now that I'm getting old I wish I had one with a great big easy to read dial instead of those tiny little numbers on the handle.
