new 2008 mitsubishi lancer evolution X
Wait, so it doesn't have an option for a 6-speed manual? That sucks.. I drove with paddle shifters in a RX-8 once and hated it, imagine trying to drop it into 3rd for a quick pass.. nope!
Overall I like the design though, for a new car.

two taps of the finger wouldnt be as fast as pushing in the clutch, moving from 5th to 3rd, and then releasing the clutch...?

Mitsubishi's onslaught of "Project Global"-based vehicles, including the Outlander and Lancer, will expand to include the Delica D:5 minivan and a new tri-diamond crossover. Before those last two hit the market, Mitsubishi intends to slap a fifth door onto the back of the Lancer and call it the Sportback.
The next addition to the Lancer family will debut in "concept" form at the Frankfurt Motor Show and will specifically be geared towards European consumers. That doesn't mean those of us in the States will be left out, and we'd expect an Evo Sportback as well.
Mitsubishi's press release is posted after the jump.

I have a friend and he does have a RX8 with those paddle shifters, It sucks, a lot, but that's on the RX8!! This shifter is a lot faster, just like the VW's and Ferraris I'm pretty sure!! And one of the reasons why the mazda sucks it's cuz the auto version with the shifter behind the wheel is 40hp short compared to the stick!!

umm dont you mean souped up lancer? where does galant come into play...
I think now that they offer the stick and auto option they will get more consumers, I doubt we are talking about the tiptronic auto tranny here where after you press to shift it literally takes 1-2 seconds to shift after, I bet its like the bmw, vw, porsche, etc type where it shifts right as you press it...
