The difference between me and you: Importing and Street Racing
Do you want to know the difference between me and you in regards to these 2 subjects (and a few others)? I've researched them. I've done the leg work. I've gone further than 99% of the people on this site. I have also helped guide others, keeping them from having to re-learn what I have already learned. No need to re-create the wheel, ya know.
Importing is simple. It can't be done reasonably and legally. There is currently no car worth the trouble that a TR member could ever afford unless you won the lottery. Since I haven't seen a post titled 'I just won the lottery', we will leave this one alone.
As far as a Petition/Demand/Outcry for a local track, let's face it, no permanent structure will ever be built in the Bay area. I did a really cool thread about 2 old Drag Strips in Tampa (yes, Hillsborough County) that Big Daddy Don Garlits used to race at. Yes, they both closed. We had them, and we lost them. https://www.tamparacing.com/forums/g...r-florida.html
So, step one is admitting that no new track will be built. But are there other alternatives? I believe there are. RaceLegal.com was my inspiration back in 2001-2002 when I first approached the county to no avail. Would they be willing to review it again? maybe.
But let's face it, unless your 18+ years old, you don't have a voice in this matter, your not a taxpayer. If your not composed, and organized, your are destined to fail. Nobody wants to hear this: "Yo Mayor, we need to fix this shiznit, cause the po-po is running all up in my game and shit". Nobody wants to see a bunch of kids with there pants arounf there ass, and there hats on backwards demanding anything. I know I wouldn't.
If you want to really try, you have to become organized, look mature, and 'Play the Game'. You need a leader who will represnt your cause, somebody that has good speaking abilities. YOu need to do your research.
Little miss 'giggly and excited' will not get you anywhere. A group of well prepared young individuals in suits will.
Maturity rules over all else.

While a little haughty in tone, I agree with this completely.
As a former US Marine Corps Intelligence Analyst I constantly gave presentations on the data I had compiled and analyzed. This is an intense thing, as I was routinely in the prescence of high-ranking officers and the data I was providing was literally being used to shape the flow of battles.
After getting out and starting college, I was amazed at how many good arguments (when taken for their base concepts) are undermined by bad delivery and poor speaking skills.
If this is going to happen, it needs to happen in a professional, mature, and pragmatic manner.

It's not the first time that I have brought this up. It comes up every 2 years. TampaRacing was founded to organize streetracers to find an alternative. I have been a member (previously an Administrator and Moderator) of this site since it was first started in June 2000. Obviously, the best we have done to date is track days and BBq's.

No Thank You. I will provide background support if asked, but this is not an issue that involves me anymore. I have not only stopped street racing, I pretty much stopped racing all together (I was big on SCCA Auto-X). This needs a person who still has the passion to fight, and that is not me.

Charles speaks the truth. It's seems like every 6 months to a year someone makes a post about how theyare gonna build a track, they know a county commissioner in (insert any local county here) and they have the money to "get it done". It takes a lot of ass kissing and hand shaking in addition to money to get it done
