RX8 lawsuit over HP claims by Mazda
Does anyone remember this from when the RX8 first came out? They were rated at something like 242 HP but then they changed it to 232 HP and offered to buy back cars or give rebates to everyone who wanted to keep their car...
I'm just looking for an article on it; old news is hard to find

I dunno, old news is amazingly hard to find, but one thing kinda side topic'd -- I can't understand why it has such low HP/TQ in the first place, it should be at least 300/300. Its a beautiful car, but i'll never touch it because value-wise its not enough for me. (insurance rapage, not enough power, too expensive)

LOGIC? You seriously want to invoke logic in a conversation about fake hijackings, missiles hitting the pentagon, and bombs planted throughout the world trade center? I thought it was a given that logic was checked at the door when entering one of these threads.
As a Madza owner I felt that they went in the wrong direction with the RX-8 platform. The company should have stuck to the roots of the RX-7 and created a sports car, not an underpowered quasi touring car. They also made a mistake by leaving the car naturally aspirated. If Mazda would have released a more aggressive looking MX-5 with a single turbo 13B, it would have been a hit.
I've heard about this but never got any solid info, but is it that they claim 245ish hp at crank or at the wheels, because that is two totally different ratings.
Because if they are rating the motor at 245 crank hp and they are dyno'd at 235, I would think that would satisfy anyone buying one (or anyone with a brain).
Dont you loose up to 10% total power through the drivetrain?

But depending on the dyno, and the drivetrain in the car (stick or auto) Hp loss is usually around 20% which would put these cars at 196hp at the wheels...
Now if they are claiming wheel hp, it also depends on the dyno used. This could be different due to climate, humidity, dyno type, and calibration.
There are really too many variables out there.
every manufacturer puts the HP numbers off of crank HP not whp because they know these stupid little ricers see "oh 245 HP, thats gonna be faster than everyone else'. when in actuality(sp) they might not even be getting 200 to the wheels.
