Default A message from God to quit autocrossing.................

I ran an "autocross" in my street driven '71 Datsun/Nissan 510 sedan with a 1600cc motor, was unfairly classified upward due to lack of entries, and had to run against 240 Z's...........2400cc motors....... course was a mile long with blind curves, hills, the corvettes were hitting over 100 on the almost straight section, and to win, you became airborn over the hill, and had to land with the car set up for the 90 degree left hander at the bottom of the hill, leading upward to the finish line.
-------------------
The first run was one of the most perfect runs I ever made, shifting, drifting and when the car landed, it was set up perfect for the left hander, with the tires lightly squeeling, protesting under threshold braking, I drifted it right up to the absolute edge of the asphalt, squeezing every smidgen out of the pavement, squeezing every smidgen out of the car ..........................
and was within ONE THOUSANDTH OF A SECOND of the faster cars.
-----------------
No problem. I had 2 more runs. I was going to air up one of the tires, and go kick their butts!

As I was adding air, I saw a small crack at the base of the rubber
valve stem. I tilted the stem to get a better look, and the tire valve broke off in my hand! I took that as a message from God that I was done for the day.
---------------
By the next year, the officials had moved me up in class, and I started racing on the East Coast where they didn't know me.

........................................yet.-Bob

That car has been rusting in my garage with the tire dust of my last autocross still in the fenders.

it would sound cliche and I'm not very skilled, but quickly kicking it sideways around an island behind the store I worked for at night and leaving the place with tire smoke that filled my cabin long after we dipped out. My friend in the passenger seat is a domestic fan but it left him smiling.

Lots of best times though, just generally taking corners as well as you can grip them is fun enough. Messing with braking hard at different speeds to make the best turn when no one is around.

I've got several tracking buddies and the most fun is getting out there, running within a foot or two of each other with confidence that nobody is gonna do anything stupid.

Get three or four guys all going into Sebring's turn 17 at 145+ mph together - it doesn't get any better.

i think one of the COOLEST things i ever did was back in michigan with my 91 turbo eclipse. my friend had an rx8 and we were cruising around at like 1am, and we stopped at mcdonalds. he got a call from his girl and she was pissing him off, so he threw his food down, got in his car, and drove off. so i followed him to the expressway and we were doing 130 mph for about 14 miles. after about 2-3 miles i think he was calmed down enough, but since we were already going 130, we just kept going lol. weaving through traffic like that was so awesome, i still have dreams of that night.

got off the expressway and we were stopped at a light, and 2 coolant hoses under my hood blew. great night

o man, where do i start????

well it as ass when i had my mustangs thats for sure

one of the best at the time, was when i had the hottest girl i had ever talked to fucking taking her clothes off because she was hot, and me being the 16 year old i was, i was about 2 feet from crashing into a ditch

2nd day i got my liscence, i was in my car with a few friends, gseclipse02 was in his with some friends behind us, well i decided to try to lose him (gs eclipse vs mustang gt, no race there) so i went and tried to hide behind a shopping center, but ended up drifting the fuck out of my car, we were all scared to hell, staring at a dumpster sliding towards a curb, managed to drive out of that one

got caught doing 140, that really wasnt to fun, but doing the speed was one hell of a rush

took my white mustang out in a field with some friends who had a decent sized jeep and yota 4x4's and well just say, i made it through everything they did

one time i fell asleep at this girls house and her parents were SUPER strict, and my mustang had offoad hpipe and flowmasters, so it was pretty loud. so i had to push my car like 1/4 mile down the road so they wouldnt know i was still there.

man to many fun memories back then, now i look back and think how dumb some where, but they were still some of the funnest times of my life. god i wish i could be 16-17 again
