Service shops
Do you think in the future the car companies will have a monoply on who is able to service their vehciles. I.E. their own dealerships..
Could this ever happen?
If so.. would this mean the local family owned service station is on the way out?

Will never happen.
If dealerships were the only place to get cars serviced, many parts manufacturers (non-OEM) would go out of business as well. Then companies like Advanced and Pep Boys would go out of business. DIY's would be left out in the dust. The market is way too big for a change like this.

I agree with the above posts. But -
I work at a GM dealership....we are not equipped to diag off brand vehicles. (GM only scan tols, GM only databases) It really sucks being that limited. We miss out on a lot of work.

You can never beat the expertise of a factory spec. service department.
If it did happen, good. I get shit all of the time that has to be fixed due to some cut rate hacks fucking shit up in independent shops. I would be glad to see independents sink, i personally think they al suck...
