Default Insurance Question

I called my Insurance comapny (Nationwide) and they were not to much help.

Basiclly I am building a Rail Buggy and I want to tag and insure it so I can drive it on the streets.

I have read up on Florida law and I know I need to install a Windshield, Brake Lights, Head Lights, Seat Belts and Turn Signal.

I will have a title for the Dune Buggy. My question is how do I insure it? Do I need insurance, or does it fall into the Bike category. Does anyone know anythign about this topic?

Thanks,

Mike

you have to insure it like a car how its done i cant tell you... i think you need to get a salvage title from the car you pulled the motor. and register the rail like that but im not 100% positive.

ok I called D&A, told them I am trying to insure a dune buggy and I was told they could help.

They said... "Not sure why you are calling us".

I said "yeah, same here. Damn Interweb people"

Why would he need the tittle from the car he pulled the motor from? What if it's a new motor that wasn't pulled from anything?

I have no idea what is needed.
I would call other insurance comapanies and the DMV.

Good Luck...

He will have to aply for a new VIN for the car, the DMV will have to inspect it for all safety items and then he will be issued a Vin + Title for the car.

good question, i just checked our guidelines (progressive) to see if it could go on a motorcycle policy since its open air and under unacceptable vehicles it list dune buggies, sand rails, and go carts. so.....nope! id contact a local agent to see if they have someone they can put you thru for that. good luck!

D&A builds beetles sand rails and really anything you can stuff a beetle drivetrain in so if you talked to someone who knew wtf they were talking about there they could most likely tell you what you would need to do. if they dont know then just call a insurance company and ask them.
