aha, I went through this exact same thing months ago and it took me around 10 DMV visits. The guy who signed the title over to me signed it but didn't include all of the information so what does the lady manning the main counter at the DMV do? Crosses it all out so I can't put on all that pointless information and have to get a bill of sale!

Go to the DMV and get the bill of sale application, you can't just write one up. Send the application to the guy and get his signature, have him send it back to you and fill out the rest.

I hate hate hate hate hate the DMV. Ever seen the family guy that shows the DMV was invented as a way for black people to get back at white people? I'm no racist but my experience sure tried to turn me that way.

P.S.

you can actually find a legal bill of sale on the internet, and print it out. then just fill in the information, and send it to him to write the date and his signature.

but your problem is trying to get a hold of the guy in the first place? dang bro that sucks, keep calling and leaving messages. if you have to, you might have to just go back to his place and see him in person. hope it all works out for you.

the same thing happened to me, i bought my car in miami but i live in largo. i had a bill of sale, but i had it written on a piece of loose-leaf paper, nothing official or legal looking, and the dmv wouldnt take it. i had to send him an actual bill of sale, and he sent it back.

You guys must be calling the people at the dmv some fucked up names to get that kind of treatment. My last 3 cars were bought as private party ( no dealerships) and everyone of them was registered without a bill of sale being shown to the DMV, of course I had all the info on the title filled out....maybe that's the difference?

all taken care of.. dunno why a bill of sale was needed, maybe cause its been 6 mo since he bought it? I've never had to present a bill of sale when registering the car, maybe just cause tis been a while... oh well its complete..
