Default Has anyone purchased a car out of state?

Ok so here is the deal. I found a car I'm very interested in NC. If i decided to pick this up do i pay NC or FL sales tax? I looked on the dmv web site but really couldn't find anything. Is there anything else i should know about buying a car out of state? Any help would be great.

pretty simple. the only differnce is that you absolutley need to make sure that the vin on the title matches the car. they will come out and look at the car at the tax collectors office.

other than that.. it's just a normal sale.

The tag agency might want to inspect it.

Both my car's have been out of state.

Florida Sales Tax and they will 100% want to see the car to verify the VIN when you get the car registered.

Oddly enough the only car that the state verified for me was the one I brought with me when I moved to Tampa. When I went to the DMV they had a cop walk outside to check my VIN. I bought a car in Denver and had it shipped in and when I went to the DMV they never looked at it. I bought something else recently in NJ but am keeping it at my place in DC, so I did all the registration through the mail and they never saw the car. Think it might depend on the person working there that day, but definitely take the car with you to the DMV and be prepared to pay 6% sales tax or whatever it is...

Out of state car requires a Vin Verification form (can be inspected by florida police officer, or florida dealership, etc... I usually visit the local PD office and have them sign it). http://www3.hsmv.state.fl.us/Intrane.../BTR/82042.pdf

Get a Florida Bill of Sale filled out to CYA. http://www3.hsmv.state.fl.us/Intrane.../BTR/82050.pdf

Check to see what is required by florida for Transferring a title from another state (each state is different). If things haven't changed, NC requires that the title to be notorized...so if your picking up the car on a sunday, be sure you can find a notory...

Thats about it.
