What got you started working on cars, or on a friend/family member? That means more than chaning the intake and sparkplugs.

I started when i was young being the tool monkey for my old man, bringing out what ever he needed from the garage for him while he was under the suburban and asking to many questions. From there on He tought me how to remove an engine from multiple trucks and other small repairs, most of my mechanical knowledge started from him and advanced by reading/research working on friends cars, and finally working on my own car when things broke. (i.e blown head gaskets, transmission swaps, engine swaps, ect.)

It also helped that my dad has been working on cars since he was in highschool and has pretty much everytool i have needed for all my projects, and if we dont have it we get it.

So how did you get started?

i started fixing the dirtbikes i blew up at age 11. i got a 70 firebird when i was 15. the trans went out so my dad and i changed it out. the junk yard one went bad too. i changed it again and it went bad too. come to find out the radiator was bad and leaking water into the trans fluid. my dad helped me with the first one and i did it the other two times. then at 17 i started working at my uncle's repair shop. i did that for 2 years.

i never had anyone show me how to work on anything but for the one time my dad helped me change the trans. my uncle would just say pull that motor and move everthing over to the short block and put it back in. LOL

I've always loved tearing things apart and figuring out how they worked. I used to take apart my dads drills and such when I was like 7, but I'd forget how to put them back together and he'd get pissed off. I bought a honda, did a couple things to it, sold it, got a 240 and ripped it apart completely. It's all back together now going on the road in about a week.

I got a computer and modded the hell out of it. I got a Goped and modded the hell out of it. Then I got a Honda Accord and couldn't figure out a way to mod the hell out of it without spending a lot of money for small performance gains. So I sold it and bought the DSM, and much of my time has been spent keeping it on the road ever since. Like today, when I got in my car and drove off only to find that the better part of my brake fluid mysteriously escaped since the last time I drove the car.

I pretty much can't leave any of my possessions stock. I'm always tweaking stuff.
