whats the best oil that i can pick up at a local auto store?

i have a 1st gen mr-2. its a 1.6 liter engine and has pretty high miles and revs pretty high.

some people have royal purple and some have said castrol.

mobil 1 or royal purple, castrol is a very good non-synthetic though.

 

I wouldnt use synthetic that would be worse, I would just put mobil one and mobil one oil filter.

 

Castrol high mileage for me
+ a can of engine restore

Royal purple in a 15 year old MR2? Shit that stuff is $8 a quart....

 

Non-synthetic I would go with Shell Rotella T, my father-in-law is an ASE certified mechanic and would tear down and rebuild engines. He ran across an engine that had nothing but Shell Rotella T used in it and it was very clean. On the other hand he hand there was also one that used non-synthetic Castrol and it was gummed up.

 

^ Were you accounting for the other variables besides just what type of oil it had in it?

 

Rotella T is a diesel oil, i only spend money on royal purple, engine runs smoother and cooler.....
