Supercharger Belt
Well, yesterday, my car started making a squeaking noise whenever I started it up, so I popped the hood. Apparently, my supercharger belt is coming off.. it's about halfway off now. I took it to a tiresplus this morning to see what's up with it. The mechanic told me the supercharger belt, supercharger pulley, and timing pulley all need to be replaced. I can't afford it right now, but i'm kinda worried about the belt coming off between now and 2 weeks from now (the soonest I can have it fixed) Since I have to drive twice a week to school which is in Tampa, about an hour drive from my house. So what i'm asking is, if the supercharger belt comes off, will the car still generate enough compression to drive?
it's a 97 buick riviera, 3.8L supercharged 240hp model. Yeah, that's what I don't understand, the pulleys don't really seem bad, but I don't know.. this is why I hate taking my car places lol.
That's exactly what I was thinking man. Listen to this BS, I told him I wanted a tune up as well, so he asks what kind of car it is, and I let him know. His reaction is "Oooooh," so i'm like ooooh??? He goes, "those things are a nightmare to tune up." Now, i'm no mechanic, but my engine is reeeeeally spaced out, and he tries telling me that it takes 2 hours just to change a spark plug, so I laugh at him and tell him the spark plugs are right next to the valve cover, on the very top, how is that possible? Then he tries to play it off telling me that you'd probably have to move stuff... BS.
I must be missing what kinb of car you have?
if the pully actually "lose" or is the belt just coming off? if its comin off its prolly just lose - its a $20 fix. If the pully isnt lose it doesnt need to be replaced...
Whats the vitals on the car? mileage, mods, etc...

It's a 97 buick riviera, it's still bone stock, i'm gonna be adding some mods soon. But I haven't looked at the pulley yet to see if it's moving, i'll have to look in the morning. The sc belt is coming off, and so is the timing belt, but the timing belt is rubbing against this metal piece causing it to squeak. 181xxx on the chassis, and the engine was replaced about 1.5k-2k miles ago. The same series 2, 3800 engine was put in it.
Well, I just started my car up, and it's dark out so I couldn't really see. But I heard like a clicking sound, and I could only see the top SC pulley, so maybe the bottom one is moving? I'm not 100%.. I can't see shit, and I don't have a flashlight lol.
Use a candle? haha
I'd try and ask for any money i can from parents and just get it fixed, its not something you really want to screw around with if its attached to something more important like a timing belt..
good luck

Haha like it's 1899 right.. Nah I don't get money from parents, i'm independent, work is just slow so my paychecks have sucked lol. But i'm thinking about ordering this
Thrasher Press-On Supercharger Pulleys: 3800 Performance
And a SC pulley and just having a couple friends help me or something. Labor is so rediculous.

Now there's some logic!
