Grassroots Motorsports $2006 Challenge
This is always a great event to check out. A lot of people do some great things with 2k.
Grassroots Motorsports » 76 Entries so far!
The event is being held on October 26-28th in Gainesville, FL. See below for hotel info. Registration is on Thursday evening, autocross on Friday, drags on Saturday.
We’ve gotten hold of Steven Cole Smith and Judge John Phillips to be our concours judges along with our publisher, Tim Suddard, and perennial helper, Rennie Bryant. Rumor has it that past Challenge champion, Denny Crabill, will also be a guest judge!
We’ll be using the good folks at Martin Sports Car Club as our timers and officials for the autocross portion of the competition. We’ve got Danny Shields, Ian Stewart, Jesse Naughton and possibly Alan McCrispin and Steve Hoelscher as our designated expert drivers.

I love those so much...what an excellent idea! Its so awesome to see what people get for so little and how much fun those cars (though not visually appealing usually) are capable of

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

Reminds me to pick up the next issue of their magazine. I wanted to subscribe but then I realized it'd just be depressing since I can't really afford to race my car.
It's always interesting trying to figure out the economics behind the top placing cars. Things like "how the heck did this guy do a clean v8-swapped RX-7 and otherwise modded for under 2000 dollars?"
