Can your car ever truly be fast enough?
Is there some level where a car is truly fast enough in a straight line? It seems like no matter how fast people make their cars, they always get bored with them and go for the next level. Is there any point where a car is just so fast that it can never get boring?
My car will trap around 108 and to me it's slow as hell. I've just been driving my friend's car which is probably a 115 trap car and it's quick, but it's not really super-exciting. I've driven a 120 trap car and that's the point at which I'd start to call a car "fast" but I didn't drive it much so I'd probably get used to it with time. I'm just thinking there has to be some ending point to all this- say you go out and build some Cobra replica style kit car that weighs less than 2500 pounds with a turbo big block making 1300hp and trapping 170+, is it going to get boring after a while?

yeah, it's a trap a lot of people fall into. I've done it so many times.
I've just tried to avoid the lump modifications (ie, dumping a bunch of parts in it at once). Thats what keeps it fun. You're always looking to top the last thing you did, and if you do most of the easy stuff in one shot, it spirals out of affordability fast or worse, you make comprimises to the point where you hate driving your car, even though you like racing it.
What I've tried with the Evo so far is to mod slowly. One or two parts at a time, and do it the best way possible. Then I'll drive it for awhile and get bored with it, and do one or two things more - all the while not making sacrifices that I dont want to live with. The other thing I've tried hard to do is NOT drive anyone else's car, and I stopped reading websites that are directly related to my car (like evom) That just puts more ideas in your head.

Speed is great and all, but personally I think crossing the finish line side by side against the competition is more exciting than the speed.

i think its also something you grow out of, at least I think I have. My tastes have changed - yeah, a 10 second street car is fun, but I like to use the whole car, brakes and steering wheel. I only visit the dragstrip now about once a year... and i havent even gone since I've modded my car. Never thought I'd say that.
I have always modded my car to go faster and always will, ill always be a car guy, its not a phase ill grow out of. I dont look at it as throwing money away but just money into a hobby i enjoy, and my car will be fast enough for me when i can break the sound barrier.....

I have a HP goal set for my car and once i hit it, ill be happy i dont care about having high HP numbers. After a while you hit the point that its useless to have it in a city since you can never use it. Im aiming for 300RWHP and im done.
Anything more i see as a waste. How often do you really get to use all 500hp out of a z06 or something simlar. You hit the gas you have a car infront of you before you get out of 2nd gear.

Driving definitions: Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and Torque is how far you take the wall with you.
been there done that with low 10 second street car and really it wasn't enough...ask anyone that knows me..i will have a fast car but after a month or so i'm bored and ready to build a whole new engine or what ever
there is i think three types of people
the ones that think its just a car
the others that where into cars but grow out of it because they are half ^ and half V.
then theres the type of person that i am..we are who eats, sleeps and shits cars..we think about cars 24/7 and there is never enough power..some say every guy thinks about sex every 30 second well its cars every 30 seconds for us and girls every 40 unless we get stuck on a mod or some shit..if there was a a/a for cars we would be there 24/7

Two vehicles makes sense for me when talkin street cars. I remember thinking that a 10 or low 11 sec car trappin around 123 was a comfortable balance between power and steet manners and overall pleasure to own. Its since migrated closer to low 10s and 130 because of the push of technology i gues but a vehicle with enough sack to push 130+ traps is a pretty hard hitter on the street even nowadays, and couldnt really be described as borin esp if its a manual or doesnt have a healthy brake upgrade. Having a slow and reliable daily beater to go to work helps you keep you from getin jaded too quick not to mention keeps everyday b.s./wear n tear off the nice ride u take out on wknds.
Well my Honda, I plan on making around 250 to the wheels, maybe 300 and thats with all creature comforts, a/c, full interior, yada, yada, just as a quick daily beater that looks clean on the outside as well as the inside.
The 'stang is basically my ongoing project 'fast' car.

fast is relative, fast for me is FTD around the track, then i'm happy. my street car, my prelude, will be swapped, probably makin 250 ish reliably, no a/c, but power steering and all that
but the 240 will be pretty much a total track car, and will hopefully balance gobs of power and handling pretty well, but the only time i'll need an upgrade is if i start getting FTDs and then start losing them
