Default Does It Matter Which Way They Go?

Ok first off before I say anything Im a complete dumbass for doing this and I dont even know why I did it this way. So does it matter which way a seal is istalled in something? Such as a rear main seal or front main seal. Im talking about the thick black round ones that have the spring going around the inner lip. Example:
This is the front:[IMG][/IMG]

This is the back, the thin gray line is the spring:[IMG][/IMG]

And so yeah I put it in all of the seals like that on my engine in backwards. So the spring is facing out when its supposed to be facing in. Im going to change them regardless but I want to know if it makes a difference. To me I dont think it would but Id rather not find out with this engine. So I know have the whole engine complete and in the car and I just realized I did this so now I have to pull it out and change them all. Which is going to take me like 3 hours to have the engine back in the car once its out. Did this ever happen to anyone else or am I the only dumbass that did this?

If you don't feel good about it, change them!
and don't do it again!

Two main considerations for "your stuff only":
Is the seal supposed to have rotation in a certain direction?
Is the actual sealing lip in about the right place, on a polished
surface, and no oil passages are blocked?

I do everything by the book if it is for a customer,
since I won't chance anything going wrong for them.

Next time, get yourself straight before you touch your car. -Bob
