3rd gear synchro. Depending on what kind of car you have, it might help when you're going to third(either up or down) to:

1. shift to nuetral, let out clutch
2. put in the clutch, and slowly ease in to third.

In the meantime investigate how much work is involved in swapping out the synchro. Also, if you have a short shift kit try to locate the original linkage/cable to revert it to stock.

Shouldn't matter. If the master or slave cylinders were going out it would do it in all gears. The only thing I could think it could be would be the synchro.

same thing in my prelude, it sucks like a mofo, except mines in first, and second is going too, but...an H22 will fix that, best i can say is go slow in the gears, and don't romp on it too much

Take it to a tranny shop it could be anything from the tranny to the linkage, you wont get it answered correctly on the internet......

^ most shops would say "well we have to remove the transmission from the car to see what's broken or needs replacement" When the "gates" in the gears isn't smooth, 99% of the time, it's the syncos that is wearing out.
Don't expect removing the transmission is no charge.

I drive my car grinding the gears sometimes when letting the clutch out all the way.

Cause: Bad synco bearings

Note: Also check to see if your clutch is let out all the way. Adjust it if it's not out all the way.
