Default correct way to apply touch up paint.

alright, i bought some factory touch up paint from the vw dealership and it came with clear coat aswell.

it doesnt have instructions, so i dont know how long i should wait to do things.. the only thing the parts guy could tell me was to scrape off the rust first, do the paint, then do the clearcoat. most obvious instructions ever.

can anyone tell me how many coats i should do with paint. then how long i should wait in between coats, how long i should wait before applying the clear, and how long i should let that dry. ive never done paint before so this is new to me.

im guessing it cant be that hard to do. just make sure you dont put it on too thick. i heard using a match ripped out of a match book is a good way too not apply the paint too thick

just go to google and type in "how to apply touch up paint" all the info you ever need will pop up...

But in short
It depends on the size of the knick or scratch really. Clean the area with soap and water, use a knick pen if you have one (don't really need to for most applications though). Next use a wax remover to make sure the paint sticks, and then apply the paint taking your time, don't glob it on there. Apply the clear, and then wetsand if you want to. Don't wax that spot for a month or so, give the paint time to cure.

+1

In addition,
I use a tooth pick and apply paint into the scratch only.
I try to build it up to the level of neighboring paint.
Keep min. spirits ready, to remove any slip-ups.
With spray cans, shake it twice as long.
Start spraying off to the side of what needs painting.
For both: 2-4 hrs drying between coats......-Bob
