there is no such thing as 'needing' backpressure, despite what people tell you.

While I am no expert, I have heard from accredited mechanics that stock engine use back pressure help slow down the piston throw for wear & tear and to buffer the pistons suspension.

I would appreciate more info about backpressure and what it does to help educate me and eliminate yet another urban myth.

Oh really? Can I run without headers too?

Despite what people will tell you, you do need backpressure, but I don't think thats your problem. But put the muffler on it anyway. I don't wanna hear any more sickly sounding 4 cyls than I have too.

he had one on there he got a dynomax one from discount but he said it didnt sound the way he wanted it to. he said he liked the way mine sounded but mines just a no name catback that i got with the car when i bought it. as far as i know the only thing he has done to his car recently was take out the cat and muffler, i was talking to my neighbor and i think he eluded to the fact that he might of replaced his timing belt around that time too though...

You dont need back pressure. if you do why doy ou think putting headers ON a car frees up more HP instead of takes it away? your pretty much saying you need exhaust fumes to make your car run better. Only way POSSIABLY i can see it as even remotly useful is if your running exstreamly rich and the unburnt fuel gets put back in the chamber. But taht seems like it would even fuck up your air/fuel mixture.
