and not just doing testing either, first since Micheal Andretti in 1993.

Scott Speed is running for Red Bull's new race team, which used to be the old Minardi team, so you can't expect great results right away. Although they are still running a detuned version of last years V10, McLaren has speculated that they could possibly be faster.

Red bull has a habit of dumping cash and expertise into this sport to get results fast and almost every WDC started out in the back markers and made his way to the top.

curious why are they running the car detuned?

dumping $$$ and expertise doesn't win races but maybe some day they'll wisely use thier $ and expertise and finish in a better position.

good luck either way to him

I see people out there spending money on the car to improve it … If you spend half that effort just working on your driving skills, making you and the car work together as a team, then you’ll go faster – period. To make the car go a second faster on the track takes a lot more energy and money than making yourself drive it one second faster.

they have to for next season, cause F1 mandated everyone go to a smaller displacement V8... so for the teams that dont have the new motor ready, they can run a detuned version of the old V10...

F1 is trying to limit speed

its a car race... they should be pushing the envelope...not the other way around... but theyve been trying to slow things down for a while...

Yeah, they're making it like nascar restrictor plates and all that stuff,
Don't make me lose respect FIA, please
it will be pushing the envelope, but not of speed, but technology, its like when they made the aerodynamics change, they had to use more and more technology to get the same amounts of downforce and flow from less than perfect conditions, so with a smaller displacement engine they are forced to make more advancements and delve futher into technology, materials, all stuff like that.
it will slow them down but it won't make it any less competitive
