feels good to know how to work on cars
It does feel good to work on your own car. Honestly it's hard to trust shops and random mechanics with your sh*t because u never really are there the whole time to see what they're doing. Being a girl, it's also very likely that if I didn't know anything about cars....I would get ripped off pretty often. Luckily knowing sh*t has saved me and my family quite a few pennies.
But I think the best part of it is when you get to enjoy it. Like that feelin' you get right after u busted your ass installing something....and get to sit in the ride and test out the fruits of ur labor.
Oh...and very importantly... trouble shooting is more often than not easier when you're the one that's done the mods. You can go through a list of things that could be wrong rather than being totally clueless and having to depend on other people to do the thinking and work for you.

Working on my cars myself certainly feels good, but one thing that sucks (at least for me) is when I learn something I didn't know by breaking something/doing it wrong. Not that I've done that any time recently, but, you know...

that being said, i'm also pretty much proud of anything i do which occassionally includes working on my car or lending a helping hand to the boys with their vehicles as well as being able to form complete sentences (sometimes) and wipe my own ass
as much of a bitch as it is for time and money, i really look forward to rebuilding my motor in the harley when it's time be it stock rebuild or a full bore/stroke S&S rebuild.

I've done everything on my car except the tranny rebuild, which I farmed out to save me the long learning curve I anticipate on getting that down pat, which doesn't work out for a daily driver. I should change that- I've done everything, with the help of my friends. Working alone is no fun, and while I learn from them they learn from me. The joys of sharing knowledge while working.
