great thread. If anyone says there are no reliable 4 cylinder turbos with 400 hp, or any that run 12's they are sheltered and need to cough up some dough. In the battle of import vs. domestic the Japanese is superior as proven by the market there is no discussion for that because they dominate sales. Although I do wish my car was made in the USA for support of my country it isnt, I hope one day we get our shit together. I like inline four cylinders that is my cup of tea. In comparison to any domestic 4 my 15 year old jap junk is still more advanced than any current domestic 4. IMO prove me wrong.

Also, 400HP 4-cylinders will not run as long as 400HP v8s with similar parts for obvious reasons (more stress being the most obvious, there is no replacement for displacement in the end. Put the same type of part on each engine and the larger engine will make more power.) They also won't run for 200k miles, unless they're something supercarish, and even then probably not.
Oh, and your junk heap isn't more advanced than shit...its just built for performance, DUH!

Japanese companys build better bottom line cars hands down. I owned an old honda accord and loved it eveything worked, It had freakin powerwindows! Then I "upgraded" to a pontiac Sunfire. Worst car in the world. To change the oil you had to have a double jointed are to change the oil filter. 90's fords, pretty much stuck with well its par best not try and make it better. Plus GM's all look the same!!!

But you're right, Japaneese do build better bottom end car ENGINES, but not the cars themselves, thats probably about equal.
