Solid axle or IRS better for handling?

For gear ratios, I would go with a numerically high ratio for acceleration, ex: 4:11 or greater, sometimes station wagons/auto transmissions have higher numerical ratios than others.

Now that we know more, are you putting in a tube frame/subframe to compensate for differences in floorpans?
It might be easier to use *only* hub carriers from another car, (whatever you finally get) and mount it to your car with spherical rod ends/heim joints. This also will make it tunable as far as roll centers go.-Bob
