Exclamation Synthectic Oil Question...

Okay, don't flame me, I've never ran across this before.

I was curious as to wether or not it is harmful to add synthetic oil into a car with petroleum based...?

I'm actually not sure what is in my current car ('02 Spec V), but I just want to top it off with synthetic. I don't wanna f*ck up the engine though.

I've never heard of that causing any problems, especially on a newer car. It's what I did a few times before completely switching to synthetic.

You can switch if you want, syntetic is really good at finding little oil leaks.

Thanx guys, your a big help!

See, I figured it wouldn't be a problem, I just remember reading in the Maintenance Manual: "DO NOT MIX SYNTHETICS WITH PETROLEUM-BASED OIL'S!"

It's always good to ask for a second opinion though...

When synthetic first came out, in the 70's or so, this was true. It scared everyone, and it's never been forgotten by some people, being passed along.

Ever notice when a hybrid is advertised, or talked about in an article, there's the awkward phrase stating that it doesn't need plugged in? That's because of the electric cars that needed plugged in and only had a short range. Some people still think they need plugged in, even though they're hybrids.
