Hydrolocking question
So last night, I was following my friend in my 96' 2WD 2 door Explorer, and I went through a puddle at the wrong place and it turned out to be 4 feet deep. So I had water over the hood completely, but luckily I had ebough momentum to make it through to the other side. As soon as we got to the other side, the engine completely died. I pulled off the intake tube and found water pouring out of it. I also noticed the throttle body was a little wet inside, too. So I dried it all out, and got the car up and running after a while. It now runs fine and has the same amount of power, but I was wondering if I did any long term damage to the engine, and if so what?
You may have gotten extremly lucky...
you see, water isnt combustable.. .LOL
1. your car will probabaly be fine.. I did that in my old z28 where the intake is real low on the car.. it sucked up water... ran.. drove like shit for a few mins.. then was fine.. i figued the engine just burned up the water being so hot..
2. since when is 4 feet deep of water.. a puddle???

Yeah, more like a lake. At first, it wouldn't even crank over, which really scared me, but it eventually cranked and finally started up. I think I'm going to change my oil this weekend, too.

what probably happened was the water sopped any air into the engine and stalled it, but the engine didnt dead stop so water kept getting pulled in, and some I'm sure had before stalling. Same thing happened to me. Drain your oil, you'll probably see water first, then oil, do the same with the tranny fluid etc. rear diff even. Anything with a vent tube pretty much.

I had that happen in my car, you should be alright...Mine didn't want to go over 1200 rpm at all for like 10 mins (I had to make it to my friends house) so I turned it off, pushed it, and then let it sit for like 2 hours....pulled of the intake tube, water came out, just a little bit, and everthing else was dry...Consider your self very lucky...
