Default Tunner help in Tampa area.

Hiya peeps!

Had a look through the forum and looks like some nice motors around here!

Im from the UK and staying in Tampa for about 9months ish. Thing is i need to get a car to get about. I have looked at a Merkur XR4Ti for a bit of a laugh to smoke about in. However the car is over boosting WAY to much! I need someone to have a look if its just a clip thats come of the actuator (wastgate?) or that its actually the actuator that shot. The car is $1200 so only cheap, there is a few things wrong with it like the overboosting but also the aircon doesnt work maybe needs new compressor urgh lol so anyone know wher ei could get one cheap?

All in all i need this to be cheap as im on a VERY tight budget i dont want to spend out loads as i have got a modified Cosworth (not sure if u know what that is?) back at home in the UK which takes a lot of money. And if i can get away with not spending much $ on a car over here that means i can buy myself a GT30 turbo for the car back home lol.

Anyhelp would be cool, also dont suppose anyone knows of a good car forsale no more than $1400?

Over boost is an easy fix one way or another man. I doubt it could take more then 50 bucks to fix.

If the rod fell off the arm then it wouldn't over boost it wouldnt make any boost.

Being that the rod holds the wastegate closed until the actuator sees enough pressure to push the rod out which in turn opens the wastegate flapper and cuts the boost down it isn't your over boost problem.

cosworth? if I am thinking right that's a hatchback, 2 door, that kinda looks like a mid 80's mazda 323. At least the last one I saw kinda looked like that.

what type of actuator is it? I have an extra off my t3/t4, if it'll work a couple of quid and it's yours. ( coins not paper ). check in the power adders forum to see if the actuators are compatible, I am not sure if they are.

Off topic, what part of the uk? I lived in the suffolk area, while my Dad was stationed at lakenheath A.F.B.

look under the tech forums and you'll see "honda" " ford" and others, one says " power adders" they deal with anything forced induction.

the big whale tale is the one I remember.

south wales, it's been years ( since mid 80's ), I took a tour from london, to ireland ( cork, dublin, blarney castle, ring of kerry) but we stopped in wales at the waterford factory. I don't remember if that was near you or not though. the pic that you posted looks like the uk, with the hills and forrest in the background. That was some beautifull countryside.

The t-3 t-4 actuator should work just fine on your t-3. If it's over boosting the actuator might well be the problem.

Have you ever looked inside a internally gated turbo?

If not it has a hole in the exhaust housing that has a flapper that closes it. The idea of the waste gate actuator is that it pulls the puck forward and seals it from leaking boost but when pressure is applied it opens and forces the puck to open. That allows the hole in the hot side housing to leak out exhaust. The exhaust that leaks out never hits the wheels and doesnt allow it to boost further.
So if the rod falls off it doesn't pull the flapper closed. Then the hole is open and ever at wot and 6k rpm the turbo will have problems building more then a few psi.
