Anyone do their own carbon fiber work?
If you mean simply pressed together by a double sided plug mold, or dye, then sure, that should be fine. Anything that will displace the resin that would otherwise be effected by flow or gravity would suffice. Vacuum bagging is really only important when you want to control the curing more closely. For parts whose overall structural integrity does not matter, all you want to ensure is an even consistent finish. Post baking will then ensure that that finish will last longer. For structural parts, though, I would def vacuum bag and post bake for higher tolerances and greater rigidity.

You didn't post a link to the Mustang you're talking about. It might be this one but if not, if you want to take the time to read through it, he has a lot of the "how to's" in there. There is also a follow up thread with more. WAY too much work and expense for a 1 off kind of thing.
