GM to Offer Employee Discount to Everyone

GM to Offer Employee Discount to All Buyers, in an Effort to Boost Sluggish Sales

DETROIT (AP) -- In an attempt to boost sluggish sales, General Motors Corp. said Wednesday it will offer the same discount it gives to its employees to anyone who buys a new GM car or truck in the next month.

The program includes all GM vehicles except for the Chevrolet Corvette and GMC medium duty trucks, the world's largest automaker said. The offer runs June 1 to July 5.

"We want to bring the focus back to what drives our business: great cars and trucks," said Brent Dewar, GM North America's vice president of marketing and advertising. "This program gives everybody a chance to drive the vehicles we drive and pay the price we pay."

GM said the new price will be prominently displayed on vehicles at dealerships.

Despite high marks in recent quality surveys, GM has had sluggish sales so far this year. Its market share fell to 25.1 percent in April from 27.7 percent the year before, and it posted a $1.1 billion loss in the first quarter.

GM shares fell 4 cents to $31.49 in early afternoon trading Wednesday on the New York Stock Exchange.

I almost said "They excluded the Corvette so there's no car of theirs I'd want to buy anyway" but I forgot the GTO and the CTS-V. Quick, everybody on the board with the financial ability to do so, go buy one of those cars! Just because I suggested it!

i guess this is what you have to do when you get tired of being slapped around by D-C and fail to turn a profit for several fiscal quarters in a row

CTS-v and Vette and GTO are about the only things worth buying... but, i guess considering that the pricing is now coming down on the trucks, they will start to be fair competition for the Ram's and Dakotas rather than being the overpriced rattlecans they were before the price drop
