Default weight of a old vw bug shell?

does anyone know roughly how many pounds one of the old vw bug shells weigh? i have a fantastic prank in mind for my highschool that consists of using 2 of them welded together, and i need to know how much they weigh so i can know how many ppl to recruit for it.

also, is there such a thing as a portable welder? because it would be easier to just weld them in the courtyard instead of carring 2 welded already...and if there is, how much would it cost to rent?

No idea what the shell weighs, but if the complete car is 1650, I'd say it will be pretty light. Most welders are portable.

Yes, larger welders are going to be 220, smaller stuff can plug into a regular outlet. I'm sure you could rent something small locally pretty cheap
