I've had an engine down to a block with crank, rods, and pistons in it and assembled from there. I'm sure I could handle that part of the assembly, and I'm probably going to test it out at some point because I have a spare block I want to do a stock rebuild on.

I'm more concerned about the tranny rebuild- I'm letting a professional (lancerman) handle that one. I'm sure I could take it apart and put it back together, and it would work. There are complete step-by-step tranny rebuild guides on the net. Still, just from talking to Jerry about a tranny rebuild, I decided not to do it myself, because there are little tricks to getting it to shift really well that only come with lots of experience. I hate a notchy tranny, no need to torture myself with a mediocre self-rebuild.
