i looked at a 93 nissan maxima, 104k miles, with a stick. i'm not a sedan fan, but it seemed ok for that style of car. other opinions?

Um. What's your price range? This is kind of a confusing question/statement.

So you do want a sedan, or no? If i were going to get a Nissan sedan of some kind for relatively cheap, i'd get an Altima, that was my first car and i miss it.

Is it a V6 model? If it's the generation I'm thinking of, the V6 was actually pretty quick for a sedan. I'd say go for it, if it was the V6.

Spend the extra couple bucks for a 4th gen (95-99) and you will thank me for the next 500K miles. Can't say enough about them. Best car i've ever owned, and gave me the best bang for the buck when it came to modding and reliability. Ironically those 2 words can't ever be considered in the same sentence. Somehow it works with this car though.

+1 you didnt say what the asking price was for the 93 you saw, but early 4th gens can be had in very good cond for 4-5 grand if you look around. If your serious hop onto maxima.org, theres always some good ones for sale.

Default thanx for the opinions

it would have cost me $2800, which i thought was about $600 too much. it was black and i couldn't get the radio or cd changer to work. i have a 94 accord ex coupe, which i got to save gas, but it's a boring a-t. the maxima had a stick, so i thought i could live with the boxy shape. if the next one isn't black, i'll try harder (>$$) to buy it. what are the benefits in a 95 or newer?
