Default Florida plates..

i'm wanting to get Florida plates sometime soon, but do I need Florida insurance? i'm still under my parents since i'm in college and have straight A's.. but don't want my own down here.

since i'm under my parents, it's hella cheap and i don't need more bills.

if i keep my ohio insurance, can i get florida plates? just curious.

thanks

I think you have to get FL plates within 30 days of moving here.

As far as I know, if you drive in FL, you need insurance in FL. Chances are your insurance in Ohio covers you in FL.

If you live in FL, you need a FL tag. To get a tag, you need proof of insurance.

pretty sure it doesnt matter if youre a full time student and list your parents residence as your permanent address.

When I moved back here in 95 I had Louisianna plates, insurance and registration.... but a florida dl. But being as I was a student int LA it didn't matter where my d/l was from. then again that was pre 9-11 and all the new indenty theft laws.

Yes, to get a Florida plate you will need Florida insurance. Just did it for a customer that has a New Jersey license and stays down here a few months out of the year.

ok, i thought so. i'm going to get a FL drivers licence since mine is gonna expire soon. the ohio one expires when i turn 21, so i'll just get a FL one.

i'll keep the ohio tags and stuff since the car is still registered to there, and insured there. but how do companies like Gieco and Safe Auto do it? they are out of some other state, but people with FL plates have that?

thanks guys.
