Its because for the dam's in china they are using R134a to cool the concrete... That was the last I'd heard. Basically the world cannot produce it fast enough at the rate we are consuming it. The china thing has pushed it over the edge

um, are you talking about R12? bc R12 is for the older vehicles and yes, R12 is expensive. R134A is for newer vehicles and is better for the environment.

Are you serious??

They are blaming everything on that dam these days, concrete shortage, steel shortage, probably why gas is >$2 gallon too

He must be talking about R134 because you can't just walk in and buy R12 off the shelf.

It requires a license to purchase the old stuff now.

i know that, i used to manage an auto parts store. but some employees who didnt care would still sell it, and then get fired. i just checked the prices for R134A and its only like $7. i just thought he was talking about R12 bc he said,

R12 is for pre 94, R134A is for newer vehicles.
he probably is talking about putting R134A in his vehicle though, its probably retrofitted since its older.

I doubt he found a place that sells r12 at $12 a pint... if he did, I'd like to go there and buy all of it. He's definately talkin about r134, price increases have been goin on for a little while now.

And you can run r134 in older vehicles such as mine, I just pumped r134 into mine and it does fine. Been ice cold air for a year now.

uh huh, i already know all this, i took the a/c course. its just the way he said it sounded like he meant something else, bc he said "i know a lot of newer cars probably dont even buy the stuff", when thats actually what newer cars take! like i said, he's probably retrofited, in other words converted. nm

To clear up the confusion, I meant newer cars probably dont need to buy the stuff because there cars do not have leaks, plus they probably get it serviced. And i am referring to r-134a.And the enviromental issues i was talking about was related to that china stuff.I was just shocked that it was 12$ a can, when it used to be like 5-6$ a can.Yes i converted it about 6 months ago ,so far so good!I am hoping it stays going forever.I have to put a can in about every to months, not to bad
