Default The Offical St. Pete Grand Prix Thread

The hottest thing since the lightening snagged the stanley cup.

Oh yeah you better believe it Indy cars in downtown St. Pete sick bitches. On April 1-3 this will be indy car's first ever street race. Will be televised on ESPN. I went in 2003 and I wouldnt miss another one for my left testicle. Weather or not your a race fan this will be an amazingly fun event. If you have lived in St.Pete for a while its a must you come check it out.

Tickets are as follows:

General Admission 3-day $45
Saturday General Admission $25
Sunday General Admission $35
Paddock Pass $50

Tickets can be bought at Ticketmaster or the Mahaffey Theater.

THE HONDA GRAND PRIX OF ST.PETERSBURG will take place on a picturesque fourteen-turn 1.8 mile temporary course framed by the city's waterways and incorporating the runways of Albert Whitted Municipal Airport. Drivers are enthusiastic about the passing opportunities and the potential for quality racing on the St. Petersburg track:

The race, which will be the third of 17 events on the 2005 IndyCar Series schedule, will mark the first-ever IndyCar Series race run on a non-oval track.

The first St.Pete Grand Prix was in 1987 and the track was designed around tropicana field, the racers didnt like the track. In 2003 everyone of the racers loved the track/enviroment and wanted to come back for more. The event was cancelled in 2004 because of the hurricanes.

"I think the combination of street and airport is going to make for a fabulous course. There are a number of places for passing, which all the drivers will like. I think it's a terrific setting, it's exciting and I'm looking forward to it." - Dario Franchitti

I went downtown a little early and snapped some pics of the stuff they are setting up. Here's a preview:

Blah, stupid ass Honda.

They were going to have 30 s2000's do a parade lap on sunday before the races, but now they are only going to use 12 and some new Ridgelines. I am number 16 or so, so I wont be able to drive

Well today was a really nice day for some Photography. But not at your normal location.

This time it was at the St. Pete Honda Grand Prix track being held in St. Petersburg, Florida next weekend.

2 Years ago Champ car came thru and I took my old Saturn down there and did some shots, and chased off by SPPD. :mgriggn:

This year wasnt any different. I first tried to skateboard the track(longboard), got stopped and almost lost my $350 board, and a $180 ticket..but walked away with a warning :mangel:

Then next was the EP. Had to sneak around some Road Closed signs, but made it thru. Here are the pics!

Had to bring out the Type R and Spoon and have a little race of their own :mgriggn:

Had fun, got some nice shots and escorted off the track by once again SPPD

I will be back hopefully over the week to get some night shots :mangel:

What day is the best to go to see? Like, Saturday is the most racing for the gatornationals, but Sunday is more competitive....
