Metric machine shops that can handle bike engines?
I asked in bike tech, but I didn't really get anywhere, so I figured I'd try in here. My roommate is trying to get some machine work done to his '88 Honda Magna block. It's got a 70mm bore that he'd like to take out to 70.25mm. Most places don't have tools small enough to do this. He also needs the cam runners line bored, which seems about impossible to get done. Can anybody suggest a shop?

Dude, that bike will throw his ass off with that huge overbore! Tell him he's a madman and to think about his family!
Tell him to try the new place that just opened on Florida Ave in Tampa. I think its Applied Machining Technology. Just call United Speed World, they are in the same building.

Do they NEED to be line bored? I'm guessing they are just aluminum caps that bolt to the heads without a seperate bearing in them? If so, will he need to buy oversized inserts for them? What I'm getting at is he may just be able to use a hone which will come in that size and have them hand fit to whatever he puts in there.

He probably could have them hand fit with a hone. It would be time consuming, but could be done.
A friend of mine and his dad own a machine shop. He may be able to help you out. They are not auto related, so they have a wide variety of tools.

Sadly, my roommate finally realized that Japanese bikes are disposable last night when looking at figures. Cost of parts + machining on the engine = >$4000. Cost of buying another 1988 Honda Magna = ~$3000-$4000. He's just going to buy another one and put his custom painted tins on it. We'll probably do a standard rebuild on that engine he has, no machining or anything, and slap it back in his bike and sell it. The engine'll run, but he was looking to ream it out, up the compression, etc...
