There was a big undecover 20/20 thing a long time ago, like 1999, about 4Runners rolling over. It stemmed from the fact that some dumb chick (not a generalization, this chick WAS dumb), did an emergency lane change at some retarded speed and flipped it. In that situation, I think most SUVs would have rolled. Well, she sued Toyota for a couple million and won, which was huge press. I think Toyota countered and won back. They showed the 4runner, interviewed the chick, etc. This is probably why people think that 4runners roll over easier. I don't think that the 4runner is especially prone to rollover. This was also around the same time that the big Isuzu Trooper rollover issue brought the subject into the spotlight.

http://www.safercar.gov/ You can do a search for any make model since 91 and they have most of the information on there about rollover rankings etc.

My mother has owned 3 generations of 4 runners. To this day they still feel alot more stable than alot of the other SUV's i have owned, driven. All of this in the mid-size SUV category.

i recently bought a 4 runner, it handles alot better than i thought an suv of that size would. being me of course i have done slolom testing in empty parking lots and what not just to test its limits and yes, it can roll, im pretty sure i had it on 2 wheels, but the driver would have to suck alot at life in order to do it. any driver with any skill whatsoever would sense it, i sure as hell did, and react accordingly.
