anyone know how much a shop usually charges for a gear install on a 10 bolt?

$400-$500. It's usually $200 for the set of gears + $250-$300 in labor. That shit has to be setup with pretty precise detail, so they just bend you over the counter for labor costs.

Oh, I'm assuming you wanted this done on your 7.5" rearend right? You're probably better off just buying a new rearend all together with a larger ring gear if you're going to bother.

yeah from alot of the installs I've been looking at it isn't a big job, just requires tons of precision measurements

Exactly. If it's not setup right it'll whine and prematurely wear the gear. Worst case scenario, the rear end grenades under heavy load, you trow a ride and bollocks up your transmission in the process.

Is this an automatic LT1 you're swapping the rear gear on or a 6 speed manual?

Try Allens Gearworks, 727-784-0452. He on the side street next to the Home Depot at Curlew and 19.

He did my 12 bolt over 5 yrs. ago and never had a problem or whining gears. I brought him the posi, which he rebuilt, bought the gears from him, had him put in longer wheel studs, brngs, etc. and assemble it all together. I did bring it to him out of the car and I put in the car myself when he was done. I think I spent around $600, yrs back.

Call him for a quote, he's good.

3.73 on a 4 speed sucks, trust me, I know. You might want to consider picking up a scrapped 3.40-whatever stock read end from a manual 6 speed car. You can get them for about $150 and drop it in yourself. It'll save you a lot of cash.

I thought the A4 LT1's had 2.73 in the back stock, not 3.23.

3.23s were an option, most had 2.73s

the 1994 trans am gt had 2-3 things that made it different than a trans am

raised spoiler and 3.23s in the auto 3.43s in the manual

p.s. - how will changing from a 3.23 to a 3.43 be easier than going from a 3.23 to a 3.73?

they are all 3 series carrier gears, if you want to share you knowledge and help with the install that'd be nice
