airflow question
ok i am getting pretty in depth and trying to learn more. i have an 850 cfm carb. i know that a 4bbl carb is rated at 1.5hg. but what i dont understand is how ppl figure out how much cfm is acually flowing. i know there are calculations that involve (inhg) and (inh20). and how do i find my pressure drop? will a vacuum guage tell me what i need to know for pressure drop and if so does the engine need to be under load or free rev. and how could you estimate the amount of air restriced by an air cleaner. if anyone has any ideas or can help me with anything plz lmk
i know it seems so large i agree with you but i had a 650 on it, def to small and then put a 750 on it and it ran its ass off, then i did some more upgrades and it lost 350 rpm top end so i slapped an 850 on for experimental reasons and i got the rpm's back and it has never created so much power. so by numbers i should not need anything close to an 850. but the car wont have it any other way. i asked a good friend what he thought i should do and he said that if will take it and doesnt stumble and it creates more power than use it and dont ask questions, and he has been drag racing for years.
LOL I like you're friends advice. If it runs, don't ask questions.
Gawd, I miss the old carburated motors. Lots of fun and frustration messing around with those things.
