last week i drove a stock ford thunderbird with 75k miles on it and the tie-rods were worn out...the suspension was shot and the bushings had tons of play.

try driving a toyota camry from 93 or 94 with 200k miles and its going to feel infinitely better than any ford vehicle.

i think though...that it fits well into their overall marketing scheme. build cars that last 3-4 years and people stupid enough to buy a ford vehicle will get a new one...etc...etc..

i'm not saying dodge or chevy are any better...but ford vehicles definitely feel the worst of the domestics.
my crown vic has almost 200k miles, been abused its whole life, all original and will start every time, the suspension is tight, no creaking or rattling, and will still get 19+ mpg with ice cold ac or heat cranking without a problem. Yet every time i see an import come into my garage they are struggling to reach a 100k, and all have that annoying 4cyl shake. Its not the brand or country the car was made in that will tell how long it will last, its how it was maintained.........

Exactly. The shitbox syndrome is an equal opportunity characteristic. It doesn't matter what you drive, the car will be a shitbox if you drive it into the ground and hardly ever maintain it.

This does suck for Ford's image. Lets just hope they got everything right on the new Mustangs.

Many of the exotic cars are known to have quaility issues. Italian cars for one are not known for reliablity.

Looks to me like most people are buying a Ford truck. Maybe I read that wrong but it seems like 7 out of the 10 best selling vehicles are from domestic manufactures

bwhahahahahahhahahahah!~1`11!!

Anyway, I would sport a Ford GT even if the thing had a mind of it's own and started randomly throwing knives at it's owner when parked. A few stab wounds would be worth it to me.

WE have an f150 shop truck, with the 46 and 2wd, put a tommy gate on the back and use it to haul transmissions and old torque converters.. has 200k on it, and starts up every turn of the key and drives just fine. wear in the normal spots (floormats top of the steering wheel arm rest) but its gets regular oil changes and the only thing to go was the o2 sensor.
