Not really. Ford did a great job with the turbo 2.3l which is well over 20-years old yet is still a favorite among enthusiasts. I thought GM also had a popular older 4-banger too.

The Cobalt is 1000x better than the Cavalier, but the new factory rice version is not very nice on the eyes.

+1 The Delta Platform is far superior to the J-Body. I don't like the "Riced out" version either.

^^werd, im not stating that domestic 4 bangers are non existant, but honesly, what do you see more of being worked on? that and the AM marketplace for domestic 4's dont seem as great. not that its not there, just not as many are in the game like many imports are. that and how many people do you see out there? lol i dont see too many domestic 4's getting worked over....that and IMO domestic 4's are not as great as an import 4.

I'm sure there will be quite a few fan boys looking to buy, but I'm not too impressed. The 1989 era bodykit is a joke

if the cobalt were turbo from the factory it would do just as well as the neon. unfortunately GM can't seem to produce a factory turbo 4 cyl.

i used to wok for GM nd have been a J-Body enthusiast for years. I agree GM has had ALOT of 4cyl cars that have ben bad ass for example 220turbo Coupe, Technica, Z24t, and teh SuperCharged 2.4L. The LD9 Platform (2.4L Twin Cam) was a stout engine, i had a 98 Z24 which was dippin in the 13's easy with just N20. It never took well to boost but i have seen some well ver 300hp. Genertec racing Development was the leading tech support in JBodies Dom went to RKSport which is Gms AM support for all te Z class cars.

From my yearly trips to Lordstown Ohio (J-body production plant) for the JBash We saw alot of GM's ideas and neat advancements. One thing you guys dont realize is that GM isnt Just Chevy and Pontiac The So called NEW Ecotec Engine the 2.2L LN2 Engine ISNT new. In fact its kinda old and Is primarily turbo. The LN2 LN3 and Other 2.0L versions reside in the Opal Astra, SAAB Turbos, Opal Cavalier. They produce 220bhp with a Isuzu or Getrag 5 Speed transmission. The power plant just never has made it to American Shores for Some unknown reason. And In my eyes its GM's Sport Compact Downfall they keep producing SuperCharge Vehicles because its reliable and easier to add on than a Turbo. I honestly think they are scared of what could happen to their Bank roll when they start blowing up. They honestly have no attractive platform tosupport the power anyways.

Amazingly Toyota Also is owned Partially by GM they have a trade off with the cavalier and Corolla. Toyota Produces the Cavalier in RHD 2.2L and 2.0LTurbo Platform and GM Produces the Corolla in the (GEO Prizm/2dr coupe) platform. If youlook undr the hood of a Chevy Prizm youll find a Toyota 1.8L Engine ! GM has its hands in MANY Small Disp. Engines but havnt seemd to be able to market ANY TYPE of Import Tuner Equal ! They thought they had it with the Ecotec Which honestly is a reat engine but No one is catching on Because the lack of tuneability With GM ECM's and GM WIll not give away any secrets Ecotecs require a Compression since Ignition system if tampered with the car wont even crank. So There is noeasy way to tune it ! But GM ight wanna get on the Turbo band wagon before they loose the Sport Compact market all together !

I rather it be supercharged, alot easier to turbocharge a vehicle than supercharger.
